3 Quick Tips For A More Positive Mindset

One positive thought can truly make a difference.

I’ve always had a tendency to think negatively, and doubt myself with thoughts like “What if I can’t?” or “I don’t know…” It’s been that way for years and I grew so used to it that the vibe and feeling of negativity became comfortable for me. Even when I applied to several jobs; at the end of completing my online application, I normally said “I probably won’t get the job.”

Negative thinking makes people feel miserable and stressed, but by having a positive mindset and thinking positive thoughts, you can have a better outcome. At the very least, if things don’t turn out the way you’d hoped, you’ll feel good knowing that you didn’t beat yourself up once again. Try living life to the fullest without allowing the darkness of your thoughts to get in the way. Here are three ways to get started on the path of a more positive mindset:

1. Self-talk

Positive self-talk is encouraging yourself by simply implanting and nurturing positive thoughts in your head. For example, “I will make today a good day.” When you constantly tell yourself this throughout the day, it’s already in your mind that you will have a good day.

2. Write it down

Write down positive things about your life, start a gratitude journal, or list all the things you love about yourself. When you do this, you are inviting happiness and more things to be grateful for into your life.

3. Surround yourself with positivity

Sometimes hearing somebody on TV or reading something inspiring will lift your spirits. My grandmother used to watch Joyce Meyer every morning; it was her daily inspiration to keep her mind focused and stay positive. At times it can be hard to stay on that positive path, and you will stumble, but all that matters is you keep at it. A lot of times, doing kind things for others can brighten your day; try giving an inspirational card, sending flowers, taking someone you love out for breakfast or dinner, or simply just speaking encouraging words when someone needs it most.

I remember a time in my life when I felt down, depressed, and plagued by negative thoughts. I wanted to give up on myself. This happened several times, but with the encouragement of my loved ones and peers, I began to pick myself back up again and surround myself with positivity.
