3 Life-Changing Reasons to Speak Your Truth

3 Life Changing Reasons

As women – well, as people in general, but especially as women – it’s easy to fall into the habit of not listening to our ‘truth’. Somewhere along the line we learn, or are taught, that people-pleasing is the way to go and other things are more important than that big voice in our deepest of being.

Instead, when it speaks (if we can even hear it anymore), our ego says back things like:
‘But, we’re a team and that’s not what he/she wants.’
‘It would be easier to just go with it.’
‘But I’m a mom and the kids always come first.’
‘No, it’s okay.’
‘Yeah, I’m fine.’
‘Who do you think you are, anyway? You’re not more important than anyone else.’
‘I don’t even know what I want – life is fine.’
Any of those sound familiar? I know I’m guilty of several of them myself. However, in the last few years I’ve learned that great things can happen and life can change in the most positive, radical ways if we silence that ago and listen to/speak our truth.
Here are three great reasons to do exactly that:
  1. It’s healing. If you’re always pretending to be fine, or convincing yourself that you’re fine (guilty of the latter!), you’re not working through anything. While that can be easier, sometimes, it’s not healthy for our mind or body. When we start speaking our truth, we start healing – we heal who we are, who we want to be, and who we were.
  1. You release the guilt, shame, and resentment – especially the latter. Even if you aren’t conscious of it, you are building resentment towards others as well as yourself every time you stuff your truth to make someone else happy, or to keep the peace. This starts an entire cycle of guilt, shame, and resentment that just repeats itself because we aren’t being true to ourselves. It’s a vicious cycle that I am happy to be out of (for the most part – we’re all works in progress!).
  1. Amazing things start to happen! When you open yourself up to truth and start speaking your truth, you also open up the door for incredible opportunities to flow into your life! If you keep hiding your truth, The Universe just hears ‘No, I don’t want that’ – and you’ll never get it. You can flip that around simply by speaking your truth – using your voice. And by ‘Voice’ I mean your inner voice, not just the one people hear when you speak.
